MALTHOUSE OUTDOOR STAGE

Situated in the Ngargee Courtyard and neighboured by the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and contemporary dance company Chunky Move, the Malthouse Outdoor Stage is a large-scale, custom built amphitheatre that lives in the beating heart of Melbourne’s contemporary arts precinct.

Linda Catalano (Quiet RIOT Founder) curated two dynamic summer seasons of the Malthouse Outdoor Stage, transforming this open-air amphitheatre into a bold and inclusive platform for contemporary performance in the heart of Melbourne’s arts precinct.

In 2022, she programmed an ambitious 25-event season spanning live music, comedy, cabaret, and hybrid performance. Highlights included Grace Cummings, Sam Simmons, Parvyn, Meow Meow, Rawcus, Geraldine Hickey, and a powerful appearance by the late Uncle Jack Charles.

The 2023 season built on this foundation with a high-impact lineup featuring Libbi Gorr’s Bold Conversations, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Clare Bowditch, Mick Harvey & J.P. Shilo, Jazzparty, The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, and the riotous A Night at the Musicals 3. A new weekly offering—Thursdays at MOS—brought a rotating roster of free DJ sets to energise the courtyard.

Across both years, Quiet RIOT brought its signature mix of edge, excellence, and community to the programming—championing diverse voices, centring artists, and curating experiences that were as entertaining as they were culturally resonant.

The result: a summer stage that became a meeting place, a celebration, and a creative heartbeat for the Southbank arts precinct.
